- Advisory: consisting of four subservice lines: Actuarial, IT Risk and Assurance, Risk, and Performance Improvement.
- Transaction Advisory Services (TAS): deals with companies’ capital agenda – preserving, optimizing, investing and raising capital.
Being a large multinational corporation means that you must manage a wide ecosystem of different IT resources. EY is not an exception and although Applications are supposed to make things more easy, sometimes, gathering data from different applications moving it, transforming it and generating information that is suitable for making business decisions becomes a manual process that is not only tedious, slow and prone to errors but also inefficient and very costly.
This was the problem that EY’s Managers were facing in the Mexico, Central America and Dominican Republic Region part of the America’s division. They needed to make important decisions related to creation of teams, separations, and new hires based on Employees information such as performance, experience, worked hours, salary, vacations and so on. But that information was split between five different Global Applications. Therefore, every time that a decision needed to be taken a lot of work hours had to be wasted gathering data from the five different sources, mixing it, transforming it and finally generating reports which costed a lot of money and time.
The decision Process
Although Technical Skills are not so common on a CFO, they surely would come in handy for them. Fortunately for EY, Evangelina Avendano, EY’s CFO for Central America, Panama and Dominican Republic not only knew the problem very well but also had a Technical Background that allowed her to have a clear vision of the complete forest. She also knew who to call, our commercial department had been knocking doors for a while and they were noticed.
After a couple of meetings with Mrs. Avendano she considered that our technical expertise, capability of understanding the problem and ability to communicate with the company’s peers in their business language was a clear signal that Sapiens was the perfect fit for this project.
The proposed Solution
The solution was quite simple yet powerful. We needed a way to gather all the information from all the possible sources, transform it and put it to good use in the form of automatic reports served to the Manager’s emails every week, month and quarter and make it possible for them to view all info, including reports in a Web Dashboard.
Because of the Company’s existing infrastructure, we decided to create a solution based in Microsoft .NET and SQL Server. We put together a set of Integration Services packages to gather the data from the sources automatically and created a WEB API in front of the .NET MVC Web Application Dashboard to be able to share that information with other systems inside EY and possible mobile applications and Data-Mining agents later.
The development process took 3 months to deliver a first version capable of adding value to the client. After that first version was delivered the client decided to extend the capabilities of the application by adding even more Data sources and information to the dashboards for Managers of each different line of service. The complete development process took 15 months. The application is still being supported by Sapiens and EY personnel as a shared effort.
The Solution in Action
EY’s 360P Web Application reduced the time needed to gather Information from collaborators from a few weeks to a few seconds. Also, it is saving thousands of dollars every month in hours of work that were dedicated to the process before. One more area in which EY’s 360P is making a positive change is in the control of the work load per collaborator, allowing the organization to make a better use of the resources and even more important, it is allowing the Managers to make informed decisions based in up to date information which makes the organization more efficient and accurate.
